Nominating Canadian Crystallographers to the Canadian National Committee
for Crystallography (CNCC) and for IUCr Commissions (DRAFT)
Nominating Process
To try and keep the process as open and encourage discussion
by Canadian based crystallographers, the nominating process is currently
performed via the Canadian Division of
the American Crystallographic Association.
- Note: nominated crystallographers do NOT have to be members of the American Crystallographic Association (ACA).
Groups of Canadian based crystallographers attending Canadian conferences (mineralogy, chemistry, physics,
molecular biology) are also welcome to solicit and discuss nominations at these meetings and
forward nominations directly to the Secretary of the CNCC.
Nominating Canadian based Crystallographers to the Canadian National Committee for Crystallography
The Canadian National Committee for Crystallography is required by its
charter to have a committee membership balanced by region, gender and
crystallographic specialisation.
The emphasis is on active committee members. At minimum, being an active
CNCC member involves contributing to E-mail discussions, evaluating
submissions for the Larry Calvert Travel Fund and attending the yearly
committee meeting, which generally lasts half to a full day. Expenses to
attend the meeting are normally reimbursed.
Nominated candidates are placed into a pool of nominees which are
reviewed and selected as required. (selection of candidates may be
deferred until a gap opens in the committee)
Nominating Canadian based Crystallographers for IUCr Commissions
- Note: As nominations for IUCr commissions are made by the
adhering body to the IUCr, Canadian nominations must go through
the CNCC and NRC. Nominations can be communicated to the CNCC through
CanDiv or to the CNCC directly. We prefer initial nominations to go through CanDiv
as these can be discussed at their meetings amongst the Canadian community.
- Note: Nominations must be submitted at least one full year
prior to the upcoming IUCr Congress and
preferably in time for the Canadian Division's annual meeting at the prior ACA conferences.
- Note: nominated crystallographers do NOT have to be members of the American Crystallographic Association (ACA).
- First check the person you are nominating agrees and is willing to
be an active member of an IUCr Commission. At minimum, being an active
member involves contributing to Commissions E-mail discussions and
attending the IUCr Congresses. It can also include workshop organising
and newsletter organisation and editing.
- Obtain the Crystallographer's resume and send to the chair of
the Canadian Division of the American Crystallographic Association
and including a brief description on why you believe the Crystallographer should be considered.
- If considered appropriate, the Canadian Division chair will send an IUCr Commission nomination form.
- This is returned to the Canadian Division chair who checks and collates formal
submissions and forwards then to the CNCC.
